An Update from Tim Keller for Albuquerque

It’s crunch time.

We’re a little over ONE MONTH away from Election Day on October 3rd and while our people-powered movement is picking up steam, your hard work is what we need to push us over the finish line.

This month saw the release of our detailed crime fighting strategy, big endorsements from all across the political spectrum, and the opening of our “Get Out The Vote” office.

Join us today at www.tk4abq.com/volunteer!

A First Hand Look at Public Safety

TK_w_police_officer.jpgRecently Tim had the opportunity to take ride-alongs with some of Albuquerque's finest officers and detectives. This post is a little longer than usual, so we hope you'll read through to the end.

Thank you to those who took the time to share their thoughts and help

Tim better understand the difficult and important job you do on a daily basis. Your insight has been invaluable in crafting our detailed crime fighting and public safety strategy.

Fundamentally our officers are overworked and our department is understaffed. Watching calls come in by the dozens, our officers are left with the choice to pick 2 or 3 to address at a time. There is a massive disconnect between what is needed in our community and the resources we're dedicating to keeping our families safe.

Many of the calls coming in are for domestic violence, addiction, mental health issues, and of course rampant property crime.

There's a lot of frustration because of this, even to the point of our police helicopter being largely unavailable during times when we needed it most.

Tim’s time with these brave officers reinforces his commitment to our approach for attacking crime and restoring community trust at all ends of the equation. APD needs strong leadership from the Chief on down, dedication to community policing strategies and DOJ reforms at the department, the implementation of nonviolent diversion programs for substance abuse and behavioral health issues, and of course a massive influx of officers to meet the very real needs of our community on a day-to-day basis.

A Mayor's job is to keep the people of this city safe. Tim will confront these problems head-on and after years of City Hall blaming others and making excuses, he will step up and own these challenges as mayor.

National Night Out

Team Keller had a great time all over the city at National Night Out! Thanks to all of our great ambassadors and volunteers for showing their support for our Albuquerque communities and first responders!

Happy Birthday Jack!TK_happy_birthday_jack.jpg

Earlier this month we also celebrated a big birthday! Happy Birthday to our big 2 year old, Jack! May your world always be as full as the grocery bags of masking-taped paper towels and magazine clippings that your sister stockpiled all week for this momentous occasion!
